About
L.Y. Cairns is an Edmonton Public High School that focuses on developing employability and vocational skills for students diagnosed with mild intellectual disabilities. Young people diagnosed with mild intellectual disabilities face increasingly difficult competition in the job market.

The Career Pathways Program intends to teach students the necessary life, social, soft, and vocational skills to increase independence. Students learn how to obtain and maintain employment. Meaningful employment will vary by student and can include, but is not limited to: volunteerism, part-time employment, and/or full-time employment.

Work Experience is an integral and mandatory component of students’ education at L.Y. Cairns. Students are required to complete two rounds in Grade 11, and two rounds in Grade 12. Work Experience provides invaluable opportunities for students to learn and apply necessary skills with an employer in the community.
